Retired a lonely U.S. flag tonight

We found the crumpled, tattered remains of a U.S. flag blowing across our yard today. Tonight as I got the fire in the wood stove going on high I said a few blessings, shed a few internal tears, and tossed the remnants into the flames. Now I can't control the outward tears. Maybe it's PMS--I hope so--I have to get the game face back on before the fam notices. I am just so grieved over what has happened to our country.

Amazing how in life, little moments reflect the greater outer reality. I praise yur sorrow and share your feelings, the country which I was born in is quickly becoming a memory. I cry for the country of which I was a boy in.
God bless

Every flag in the country should follow. These bastards can come up with their own flag. Maybe Yellowstone caldera will take care of the shame.

I hope for your health the flag was made in the USA, out of cotton.

If it was, like nearly all of them, made in China out of polyester or nylon, you might have gotten a good dose of toxic fumes.

Love of country. (not necassarily gov't) That is what makes Americans the people we are. Politics aside. I think our country is a bastion of freedom, even today. Our ancestors have sacrificed much for us to have the blessings we currently enjoy, (think Valley Forge, Gettysburg and Normandy) At my job there is a Memorial that I maintain and interpret. I am honored to be able to perform that DUTY!
Of the future we do not know. But FREEDOM will be a standard that is desired and sacrificed for through eternity. We can only do our part today and encourage our youth to carry the flame forward. So honor, sacrifice and weep if the situation demands it, but DO NOT LET THE FLAME OF FEEDOM PERISH, DO YOUR DUTY!

What "freedom" did that protect? The Civil War was the beginning of the end for freedom in America, as the right of people to disagree with Washington was violently crushed.

What "freedom" did that protect? Rather interesting that half of Europe fell under slavery when the Americans went to save Stalinist Russia from Nazi Germany.

Agreed to a point. I'm a Southron by choice so gettysburg has little appeal
for me.

However, Today I am able to choose my career, my family's well-being and my very life in the US of A. Is it perfect? NO! but many others outside of this country have it far worse than I. For the record, I apologize little for the actions of my country, and have little use for those who do.

Good on you, Ralleia. I know it isn't easy...I know you want to stop it...but sometimes you just have to focus on what you *can* do...like your situation, you did the right thing...know your principles and stick to them...

In the past I have retrieved a downed American flag from a neighbors yard- it was sitting ON THE GROUND and was caught in some thorn bushes. I wanted to give it a proper burning, but it was a synthetic fabric and I didn't have a fire-pit. So I got out my sewing kit and sewed up all the ripped parts, and put it up on the wall in my living room.

So sometimes you have to compromise too. But any American who loves what the country really stands for is A+ by me.

T,
I've found the best place to find flags is at garage, yard and estate sales. Especially estate sales. I've got several 48 star flags. Every one made in USA and made of cloth with each star sewn in place, not painted on.

It's always great to 'rescue' one of these 'old soldiers' from being thrown out. Good hunting.
